Here's How to Stop Feeling Like You're Already Behind with AI
Why the people who feel 'behind' often end up ahead.
My 11 year old daughter has been grinding for two weeks straight.
Volleyball tryouts.
Every day at school during gym class. Running drills. Learning serves. Coming home exhausted.
Yesterday, she made the cuts.
I’m thinking celebration time. Ice cream. High fives. Dad of the year moment.
Instead?
She’s sitting on her bed. Eyes welling up. Bottom lip doing that thing.
“Dad, I’m going to be the WORST one on the team.”
“The other kids all know how to play.”
“They’re going to laugh at me.”
Being a dad to daughters, the natural instinct is to FIX IT.
Identify problem. Deploy solution. Mission complete.
(This approach does NOT work on my wife, by the way. I should just listen, and validate.)
But with my daughter, I went full operator mode.
The problem: Lack of confidence.
The root cause: No practice, no knowledge, no reps outside of gym class.
The solution: We’re buying a volleyball tomorrow. And your old man is going to teach you some things. In the house of course, because there’s three feet of snow in the yard.
Plot twist: I was on the high school volleyball team.
Yes, I know a thing or two about short shorts and spikes.
Don’t ask for pictures. They don’t exist. I burned them.
Here’s where this connects to YOU...
You Might Be Feeling the Same Way About AI Right Now
New model drops every week.
“Claude 4.5 is HERE!”
“GPT-5 changes EVERYTHING!”
“Did you see what Gemini can do now?!”
And you’re sitting there thinking...
“Everyone else already knows this stuff.”
And then you become overwhelmed and just want to cry into your pillow.
Sound familiar?
That’s Why I Built This Newsletter
The AI Operator Handbook exists to be your volleyball in the backyard.
The practice you need, knowledge that sticks and reps that build real confidence.
Not hype about what AI might do in 2030.
Not tutorials so technical you need a CS degree to follow along.
Practical systems you can build THIS WEEK.
Who This Is For
You don’t need a technical background.
In fact, being non-technical might be an advantage.
It forces you to approach AI through the lens of actual work problems rather than getting lost in technical rabbit holes nobody cares about.
If you want motivation porn, find a hustle bro.
If you want systems that actually work, you’re home.
In case you missed them, here are three articles that will help you on your AI journey:
Right now free subscribers get 2+ issues a week.
Enough to change how you approach AI and work forever.
But you only get the CONCEPTS. You don’t get the IMPLEMENTATION.
But the PAID SUBSCRIBERS:
The “HOW.”
Frameworks
Operator thinking
Systems thinking
Copy-paste prompts I use daily (battle-tested with 2,000+ operators)
Complete operator systems with step-by-step builds
Access to all previous issues with templates, frameworks, and resources
Direct access (I read every reply)
One system could save you 2 hours per week = 100+ hours per year.
You get multiple systems that start stacking on top of each other.
Founding rate locked forever.
The Bottom Line
My daughter was ready to quit before she even started.
Convinced she’d be terrible. Convinced everyone would laugh.
All she needed was the practice, the knowledge, and someone to show her the reps.
That’s what this newsletter does for AI.
Build systems. Remove friction. Execute.
Ryan
P.S. My daughter and I are hitting the basement gym tomorrow with her new volleyball. By the time the season starts, those other kids won’t know what hit them. Same energy for you and AI. Let’s go.
