Building a Business with Three Hours a Day
You Don't Need More Time. You Need Better Systems.
I saw the future I’d rather not visit
And it scared the hell out of me.
My daughter’s Christmas concert. Cute kids singing off-key. Parents filming on their phones. Standard stuff.
Then I saw him.
Construction worker. Mid-60s. Dusty gear. Boots that had walked a thousand job sites.
But it was the way he moved that got me.
Shoulders hunched. Steps slow. The kind of tired that screams “my body gave up before I could.”
He walked out during intermission.
Another job site waiting. Or maybe just home to ice whatever hurt that day.
I don’t want that to be me in 20 years.
You probably don’t either.
Here’s the problem.
If you are building something and trying to start a business…
You have THREE HOURS. Maybe less.
5 AM before anyone wakes up. 8 to 10 PM after kids are down. Lunch breaks. Sunday mornings.
That’s it. That’s your window to build the thing that gets you OUT.
And most people are WASTING them.
Not because you’re lazy.
Because you’re doing EVERYTHING MANUALLY.
Writing every email by hand. Answering every DM personally. Creating content from scratch with zero system.
You sit down at 8 PM ready to BUILD.
30 minutes later you’re still clearing your inbox.
9:15 rolls around. You panic-write something. Anything.
10 PM hits. You feel like garbage because you didn’t actually move forward.
I did this for MONTHS.
Felt like I was working hard. Getting nowhere.
Then I stopped being an idiot.
Here’s what changed everything.
PROTECT THE TIME FIRST
Family time is locked. Dinner. Bedtime. Christmas concerts.
But 8 to 10 PM? That’s MINE.
Calendar blocked. Phone on Do Not Disturb. My wife knows I’m building.
5 to 6 AM a few times a week. Brain dump hour. Content planning. Deep work.
If you don’t block it, something else TAKES it.
Your boss emails. Netflix. Your couch.
Block it like your life depends on it.
Because it does.
THE 5 AM BRAIN DUMP
I don’t write at 5 AM.
I PLAN.
Open my system. Dump everything in my head onto the page. Newsletter ideas. Social posts. Client stuff. Random shower thoughts.
Claude organizes it. Prioritizes it. Tells me what matters tonight.
15 minutes of planning saves TWO HOURS of staring at a blank screen.
You’re not blocked.
You’re unorganized.
THE EVENING WORK BLOCK ⚡
8 PM. Laptop open. Let’s go.
First 15 minutes: Email and DMs.
AI scans my inbox. Flags what needs me. Drafts responses for everything else.
DMs get sorted. Close network and customers FIRST. Everyone else waits.
30 emails cleared in 15 minutes instead of an hour.
Because I’m not reading spam about webinars I’ll never attend.
Next 60 minutes: Newsletter or content.
I follow my system document. Step by step. What gets written when. What gets posted where.
Zero decisions. Zero “what should I write about?”
Just EXECUTE.
The document updates as I go. New task? Add it. Better process? Update it.
Systems beat motivation every single time.
Last 30 minutes: Growth.
Engage on Substack. Reply on X. Build relationships with creators.
This is the GROWTH PHASE. These are SOCIAL networks.
Hiding in Google Docs doesn’t build an audience.
You need to be SEEN to grow.
WHAT I DON’T DO
I don’t answer every email personally. AI handles 80%. I touch the 20% that matters.
I don’t respond to every DM immediately. Urgency is fake. Most things can wait.
I don’t create content from scratch every time. Frameworks. Templates. Systems.
I don’t waste time deciding. My system TELLS me what to do.
Three hours is enough when you’re not doing busy work.
THE REALITY CHECK
Some nights I get 90 minutes instead of two hours.
Kids won’t sleep. Wife needs to talk. Life happens.
Some mornings I skip 5 AM because I’m human and sleep matters.
But the system runs anyway.
Because I built it to work even when I’m not perfect.
That’s the ENTIRE point.
You don’t need more time. You need BETTER SYSTEMS.
You don’t need more hours. You need to PROTECT the ones you have.
You don’t need to do everything. You need to do the RIGHT things.
The guy at the concert didn’t have a choice.
His body gave out before he could build something else.
You still have time.
Three hours a day.
USE IT LIKE IT MATTERS.
Because it does.

Nailed it! The brain dump was a much needed help when I started. It was great to get organized so I could maximize my time.
Even just the Claude brain dump idea alone was super valuable.
I do something similar for content creation, but really should use it for daily tasks as well.
